CDS and Voxshell: Connecting Concept Exploration to Certified Simulation Environments

CDS has signed a Software Distribution Partnership Agreement with Voxshell, publisher of the ChopMesh meshing platform, making ChopMesh available to its aerospace, defense, automotive, and industrial customers.

Two phases, two distinct toolchains

Cognitive Design covers the concept exploration phase end-to-end: geometry generation, performance simulation via an integrated meshless FEA solver, and design space exploration, without requiring engineers to leave the platform or preprocess their models. The intent is to keep the iteration loop as short as possible, so that mechanical and thermal performance feedback is available on every concept variant, continuously.

Large engineering organizations, however, operate with separate team structures downstream. Once a concept is selected, it must enter a certified simulation pipeline managed by a dedicated simulation team, using solvers such as Ansys, Abaqus, or Nastran that have been formally qualified within the organization's product development process. That transition requires a mesh that is both high-quality and compatible with the target solver.

ChopMesh addresses precisely that handoff. It converts the geometry produced by Cognitive Design into simulation-ready meshes compatible with the certified solvers already deployed in the customer's environment, with no geometry loss and no manual reconstruction.

What this means for CDS customers

Generative design produces geometries of a complexity that conventional workflows struggle to handle downstream. Meshing those geometries reliably, at the quality level required for mechanical, thermal, thermo-mechanical and fluid (CFD and CHT) simulation, has historically been one of the most time-consuming steps between concept and validation.
